Sledding Slang 101
- Top-end: The 3/4 to full throttle section of powerband. This is dictated by main jets in carb.
- Fat: Too big of jets in the carbs resulting in too much gas entering a certain carb stage. Results in gurgle and loss of peak power.
- ATF: Automatic transmission fluid. The desired lubricant for the chaincase.
- Flatlander: Someone who lives amidst rather flat terrain. AKA, the Midwest. Most flatlanders dream of mountain powder.
- Snow flap: The ugly plastic or rubber thing hanging off the back of the sled. Aids in cooling and keeping the roost off your buddys face.
- Powski: Powder. Fluffy snow. The white gold every die-hard snowmobiler dreams of.
- Hyfax: Plastic slides on the bottom of the sled that the track rides on.
- Crank: Crankshaft. Most internal (and expensive) piece of the engine that converts vertical motion from pistons into circular motion to spin clutch.
- TIG Weld: Tungsten Inert Gas welding. The only proper way to weld aluminum.
